Your spinal column is made up of 24 vertebrae's which are stacked up like fragile dishes with cushioning disks between each vertebrae. These vertebrae are cushioned by cartilage, called discs, which act like shock absorbers. Each disc also functions as spacer, allowing your nerve roots to exit your spinal column between each vertebrae without being pinched or irritated. Healthy discs are an essential part of you spine’s amazing ability to protect your nervous system to allow flexibility and full range of motion.
