I would give it minus points if I could. I have been trying to cancel for the reason of permanent disability for several months now but my request keeps getting declined or ignored. They want to charge me $150 cancellation fee while the contract clearly says that in case of death or permanent disability there is no cancellation fee. I contacted Better Business Bureau - they said I was right but it had no effect other than getting GG's score down a bit. I sued GG (Louis Lamb as a defendant) but he refused the certified mail with the invitation to court. I called him today to ask what would be a better address to deliver the court invitation but he said he will never accept the invitation and if I want him to go to court, someone will have to physically drag him there. OMG!!
It's so not about money anymore, it's about ethics and I will not give in until there is justice because customers like Brenda, myself and several others are just being openly robbed from by an unethical corporation and that's just wrong. I recommend that you contact both the Capital newspaper and Better Business Bureau and file a claim against them if they are stealing your money like they are stealing from me, you are totally not alone and people have to be warned before they give away their CC number.
It's amazing that Gold's allows the owners of this gym to even use their corporate name...
- The building doesn't have adequate heat or air conditioning, so it's always hot in the summer and cold in the winter. You can see the residential window AC units they've punched through the walls from the outside. And on the inside there are always huge fans running that unsuccessfully attempt to push hot and cold air around.
- The weights are a collection of mismatched plates and bars from at least 6 different manufacturers.
- When things break, be it water fountains, weight machines, locker doors, etc... the owners take "months" to fix them if at all.
- The men's locker room has zero ventilation and always smells of mildew, sweat, and stale urine. God help you if someone uses the single toilet to go #2 while you're in there trying to change.
- There have a handful of unsafe circa 1970's machines that probably came from the same surplus warehouse as the weights mentioned above.
- The bottom line is that this is a very poorly maintained and unclean gym that isn't worth the membership. If you want to see what a "real" Golds gym is "supposed" to look like, check out the one in Crofton MD just west of Annapolis.

BUYER BEWARE - Regarding their membership policy:
The kids they have taking new memberships do not make it clear that at this particular Golds Franchise they have a policy that after your first year of membership expires. If you don't notifiy them within 30 days they AUTOMATICALLY SIGN YOU UP FOR ANOTHER "FULL YEAR". (Most reputable gyms go to a month to month basis after the initial year membership expires).
This gym offers no options or provisions for cancellation other than proven medical disability or moving more than 50 miles away from the gym. They force you to pay the remaining months of membership fees to complete the year no matter what point you are in the billing cycle.
