This website is here to provide you with information about our pediatric practice, PUTNAM PEDIATRIC MEDICINE PLLC. Our patients' parents prefer to call us Putnam Pediatrics. Our office was opened by Dr. Alfredo Garcia in 1972, some 39 years ago, in Mahopac, New York with full view of Lake Mahopac which is located in Putnam County in the lower Hudson Valley region. He then transferred his practice to nearby Carmel in 1980 where he occupied the first medical office at The Barns Office Center on 667 Stoneleigh Avenue where he has established himself ever since. He was later joined by Dr. Barbi Volk in 1997. They have worked harmoniously together since then with a combined 74 years of extensive experience. Both Dr. Garcia and Dr. Volk are board certified pediatricians.
We are affiliated with Northern Westchester Hospital and Putnam Hospital Center. We examine newborns at both hospitals. For babies born at Putnam Hospital Center. we visit and examine our newborns on day of discharge. We perform our daily visits and examinations for newborns at Northern Westchester Hospiotal. We admit all our ill patients to Northern Westchester Hospital where there is an excellent Pediatric department. For more complicated illnesses we transfer our sick children to Maria Fareri Children's Hospital or Columbia Presbyterian Babies Hospital.
As practitioners in general pediatrics, we offer a broad range of services in the field of pediatric medicine - from preventive check-ups and same-day scheduled sick visits to treatment and/or referral to pediatric subspecialists. We take care of kids from the newborn period through adolescence until 21 years of age. Please do not be surprised to learn that we now provide care to the children of our previous patients. Although we are not that old, we feel like grandparents to the new generation.
We encourage you to look into our practice to discover more about our people- and kid-friendly office, our team of loyal, passionate and pleasant office workers and the numerous services that we provide. The smooth running of our office is accomplished by an office manager who also happens to be an accountant, a medical assistant and nurses. Please feel free to contact us for more information by calling 845-279-5131 or 845-279-9652.
Make life simple: We offer you services to make your visit to the practice easier and more pleasant.

About Appointments
Everyone, including us, dislikes long waits in the office. One major reason for increased waiting times is coming late for a scheduled appointment. This negatively affects the flow of patients through the office. We encourage parents and patients to keep thier appointments in a timely manner.
Should there be a need to miss a scheduled appointment for a physical exam, PLEASE CALL TO CANCEL in advance at least 24 hours before. That time can be filled with another patient in our waiting list. We reserve the right to reschedule your appointment when you arrive late.
There are certain times during the day when the office will be very busy. Those times usually happen after school between 3 to 5 pm when "the bus arrives", all day Monday and Saturday mornings.
Knowing these facts, please schedule your appointments accordingly. Our office offers a reminder call the day before an appointment for a physical examination.
Expecting? Looking for a pediatrician for your children?
We encourage new parents to schedule a prenatal visit. Meet with us before your new baby is born. Through this approach, you can get acquainted with your pediatrician, our office and our office staff. This will also be a perfect time to ask questions about your baby's birth and be provided with answers regarding newborn care, choosing between breast or bottle feeding, deciding a baby boy's circumcision, just to name a few. This is a complimentary visit.
Likewise, a new family searching for a new pediatrician or any family needing a new doctor for their children, are also encouraged to to make this complimentary visit.
