Why You Should Eat Coconut Oil.

In the 1950's, the public began to put blame on saturated fats saying that it was responsible for the rise in heart disease and cholesterol levels in the United States. But, the real culprit is the rise in grain consumption, environmental toxins, and hydrogenated oils/trans fat. Here are some reasons why you should start to add coconut oil to diet.

1. Although 90% of the fat in coconut oil is saturated, 50% of it is lauric acid which is a MCFA medium chain fatty acid. MCFA's have beneficial antibacterial and antiviral properties.
2. MCFA medium chain fatty acid are more readily utilized by the body as a form of energy. When compared to LCFA long chain fatty acids, MCFA's speed up the bodies metabolism and are less likely to be stored as body fat.
3. Because coconut oil is a saturated fat, it has a relatively high melting point. So the fats don't oxidize as easily and become damage when exposed to heat. Frying monosaturated fat such as olive oil creates trans fats which are very harmful to the body.
4. Coconut oil promotes hearth health. Trans fat are the enemy and are the primary cause of heart disease, not saturated fat.

*One important note: Before you start to supplement with coconut oil, you should determine your own metabolic type. If you are a carbohydrate type, you should consume less fat. If you are a protein type, having more fats in your diet will be may be more beneficial. The amount of coconut oil that you consume should vary based on your metabolic type.
