I know this probably qualifies under getting fit for a pursuit and yes, it is a pursuit of mine. But I recently got discouraged.
I am overweight, out of shape and am trying so hard to not let it get any worse. Been this way for so long now. I am about to have another birthday (over 40!) and I have a hard time looking at myself in the mirror.
I have a challenge coming up next year that I want to be in shape for. Maybe not tiptop shape, but in shape to complete it. I went to my doctor yesterday and he was impressed by my drive to do this thing. But, he laid it out, that for the next year, I need to take advantage of the time and get into better health.
Then he hooked me up to an EKG right there in the office. Seems there is a "brip" on my heart "radar" screen. Yea, it has me worried, but until I get into see the cardiologist, I will not divert one ounce of energy from my goal.
My husband and son have been very supportive of my upcoming adventure.
My problem seems to be the way I look at myself. I have been working out for almost a month now and have not noticed any changes in my appearance or my weight. Doc says this is kind of normal, but, please, I ask you, what the heck!
I do plan to keep up with the workouts, but I am getting way discouraged.
The only thing that keeps me going is KNOWING that a year from now, it'll have paid off. Immediate results are not forthcoming, but I can see in my minds eye that a year from now, I'll be looking real good.
Anyone with any kind of advice on doing this another way, or helping me deal with the let-down for now, please, I ask you, tell me your story so that I have hope!
You can be proud of yourself everyday. Most people just wish things would be different....you're creating it. It can be discouraging if you measure your weight and inches on a day to day basis...you're going for the long run and it sounds like you have the right stuff inside to make goals happen. The workouts are fabulous for your health and sense of strength and stamina....have you changed your eating habits too? Even a small shift in quantity can make a big difference, and when you start to see results you'll be even more motivated to take on a new level of commitment to both quantity and quality. I gotta say 'hooray for you!' You can do it!
