Chiropractic nutritionists have in-depth knowledge of nutrition and its role in gastrointestinal disease, drug-nutrient interactions, different genders, infancy, musculoskeletal health, cardiovascular health and herbal medicine.
Chiropractic rehabilitation specialists may obtain additional certifications through the diplomate programs offered by the American Board of Chiropractic Specialties (ABCS). Programs include orthopedics, chiropractic pediatrics, diagnostic imaging, chiropractic acupuncture, neurology, sports physician and occupational health.
Chiropractic Rehabilitation Specialist Education: Chiropractic rehabilitation specialists attain a premedical undergraduate college education and then attend four years of an accredited chiropractic college. In addition, they must complete a minimum of one year clinical training that includes over 4,000 hours of clinical, lab and classroom training. Postgraduate, chiropractors attain the specialty certification of doctors of chiropractic in the field of clinical nutrition (DCBCN) with 400 hours of classroom work. Both a written and practical examination are required for the DCBCN. In order to maintain this certification, chiropractors must complete a minimum of 16 classroom hours of continuing education in nutrition each calendar year.
The Chiropractic Board of Clinical Nutrition operates under the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) and issues the specialty certification diploma to doctors of chiropractic in the field of clinical nutrition (DCBCN). The ACA is the largest chiropractic organization and regulates standards, offers educational opportunities and supports research.
