Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare: I can truly say that my father inspired me to become a physician. I grew up in Nigeria and watched my father, a public health physician, take care of the sick and educate his patients on the importance of healthy habits in the prevention of disease. I remember accompanying him to our village on several occasions in the 80's and observed him providing care in the most compassionate manner ever. He always appeared satisfied and was his happiest after a long day in the clinic. It was obvious that he derived a lot of satisfaction and fulfillment practicing medicine and I decided I wanted the same for myself.
