I couldn't believe how great their office looked. It was very obvious that they took pride in the office's appearance. It was one of the best looking offices I've ever seen. I've never seen anyone who is more respected by their staff. The entire staff only had great things to say about working there, and it made me want to return all the more. They have some of the best customer service I have ever seen. Putting their customers first is definitely a priority here and it shows.

I was a little apprehensive about going to see Dr. Akman, as I had read other reviews saying he was arrogant, not very nice, and didn't take time to really deal with the issues you were trying to present. Well, I have seen him twice now, and that has not been my experience at all. I found him very friendly and he definitely took my complaints seriously and addressed them thoroughly. He took the time to read through pages of information I had brought with me from other doctors (I had moved from Canada), and he gave me a referral for some things that he felt should be looked at by another kind of specialist. When it came to choosing a medication, he personally checked what my insurance would cover (I was there when he did it) and chose an equally good but less expensive medication for me, when I voiced a concern about cost.

Perhaps what has put some people off is that Dr. Akman is clearly an extremely intelligent man with vast experience and a really quick mind. This, coupled with the demands on medical specialists in a town like ours, might lead his fast processing of information to appear like he's not really taking much time to really think through your issues. However, he IS thinking them through -- he just knows what he is doing and is a fast thinker. I personally didn't feel like he was rushing me at all, either time I've been in there, just that he was able to process information faster than most people -- and I think that might make some people uncomfortable.

The bottom line is that he is a good doctor who knows what he is talking about, he is careful and thorough, and he is plenty nice if you are not afraid of a guy with a real brain in his head.

There was ample parking at their office. Easy enough to find. Neither staff nor Dr. Akman really took that extra step to make me feel special or welcome. I'm undecided if I would refer any of my friends or family here. However, we are limited in Northern California as far as specialists. Dr. Akman looked at my reports that had been sent to him by my primary care physician and told me that my thyroid cysts were of no concern. No physical exam. Nothing. I wish he had looked at my reports and had his staff tell me I didn't need to drive 3 hours and pay for an office visit just to hear that. Waste of his time and mine.
